SHERIDAN (MI) — Nearly 60 foreclosed properties in Ionia and Montcalm counties will hit the auction block this month.

The annual land auction is noon July 31 at the Sheridan Community Center, 205 St. Clair St.

Potential bidders can register at online or starting at 11:30 a.m. the day of the sale at the Community Center.

Montcalm County will have 38 properties for auction (10 less than last year), while Ionia County will have 21 properties available (three more than last year). All properties were foreclosed on for unpaid taxes in 2015.

Any properties that do not sell for their minimum bid July 31 will go up for sale again at a no minimum bid auction later this year.

Montcalm County properties of note include an old hotel in Home Township with a minimum bid of $36,000, part of an old elevator in Vestaburg with a minimum bid of $4,500, lakefront property in Evergreen Township with a minimum bid of $3,900 and an old commercial building in Cato Township with a minimum bid of $1,700.

Ionia County properties of note include a modern raised ranch home in Belding with a minimum bid of $9,800 and a currently occupied four-square home in the Lyons at a minimum bid of $8,100.

“We do have two properties that are being taken for public purpose — they pay full back taxes and fees and have first right after the state,” Ionia County Treasurer Judith Clark said. “The city of Ionia will have a pole building to clean up and be able to use for city maintenance facilities and vehicles and storage. Ionia Township is using a lot next door to clean up and expand parking.”

Montcalm County Treasurer JoAnne Vukin could not be reached for comment for this story.
