Approx. 2,000 properties expected to be for sale in Shelby County's first online-only tax sale

Approximately 2,000 properties expected to be for sale in Shelby County's first online-only tax sale Jan. 19 will available for viewing online at noon Saturday.
Participants will be able to register, view properties and set up a favorites list in advance of the sale, said David Lenoir, county trustee.
"They can't bid on properties, but they can set spending limits, so when the auction does go live they can begin bidding on properties," Lenoir said.
The listings will include the back taxes and other costs, which represent the minimum bid for the real estate, he said.
But, Lenoir said, buyers should be aware that a property owner could pay the taxes before the sale and reclaim the property.
"We're certainly glad when taxpayers make the decision to pay their taxes and get out of the tax sale," he said.
The sale will be conducted through online vendor CivicSource and is expected to increase the number of participants by allowing buyers to bid from anywhere. Read More...
