HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - DeSoto County officials are getting ready for their annual delinquent tax sale.
Tax Collector Joey Treadway calls it the best deal in town...Libby Riley, chief bookkeeper in Treadway's office, says up for bid on Aug. 25 are 3,829 parcels as of Aug. 12.

Riley tells The Commercial Appeal the parcels represent some $4.7 million in overdue 2013 taxes plus interest and fees. The 2013 sale drew about 280 bidders over two days...

The DeSoto Board of Supervisors savors the sale, since it usually means a hefty cash boost to county government's general fund. Last year, the county reaped about $312,100 from an event involving at least 3,761 parcels, more than 250 over the previous year and sold for total taxes and fees of about $4.9 million.
